Echelon Inbox docs
Echelon Inbox is a Mac mail client for Gmail that uses AI to sort new mail, sum up threads and draft replies. These pages explain how to use it and how to run your own server.
What it does
- Triage. Every new email gets a tag, such as Needs Reply, Waiting On or Newsletter. If you allow it, low-value mail is archived for you. See Triage & tags.
- Summaries. One click turns a long thread into a short summary at the top. See Summaries & drafts.
- Drafts. Tell the AI what to say and it writes the reply as a Gmail draft for you to edit and send.
- Search by meaning. Type
ai:in the search box to find mail by what it's about. See Search.
The ground rules
- Gmail is the source of truth. Tags are Gmail labels, drafts are Gmail drafts, and archive is Gmail's archive. Everything the app does shows up in Gmail on the web and on your phone.
- It never sends on its own. The AI can label, archive (if you turn that on) and draft. Only you send.
- It works while you're away. Triage runs on a small cloud server, not your laptop, so mail is sorted even when the app is closed.
Where to start
- Using the app: Install & sign in.
- Running your own server: Self-hosting.
- Want to know what happens to your mail? How it works & privacy.
