Search
Search with Gmail's usual operators, or type ai: to find mail by what it means instead of the words it uses.
Regular search
Press / to jump to the search box. It accepts everything Gmail search does, such as from:dana, has:attachment or newer_than:7d. The filter menu next to the box adds common ones for you: unread, starred, attachments, date ranges, size, sender, recipient and subject.
AI search
Type ai: followed by a description:
ai: the dispute with the printer about the late invoice
The box shows an AI pill, and results are ranked by how closely they match the meaning, even if they share no words with your query. Press Backspace in an empty box to go back to regular search.
Choose which tags are searchable
AI search only covers mail in the tags you pick. In Settings → Tags, tick AI search next to each tag you want indexed. New mail in those tags is indexed as it arrives.
Leaving noisy tags like Marketing or Notification unticked keeps results focused, and keeps less of your mail in the search index.
